Ancient Greece
The history of Ancient Greece can date back to the Stone Age. That is a period of time full of glory in human history and invasions. Several good ways to learn the history is through historians, or by temples, sculptures, pottery and other archaeological findings. There are three prominent historians in Ancient Greece who can record the time of Ancient Greek, namely the ‘Father of History’ Herodotus, Thucydides and Xenophon.
In general, there are four ages in the history of Ancient Greece. From 6000BC to 2900BC, it is called the Neolithic period. Most of the people lived in the east of Greece and they traveled a lot because of overpopulation or survival. However, when people from Anatilia of Turkey came, they bring stability as local people can settle down in one place by farming, stocking and raising animals like goats and sheep, and they also begin to exchange their products for individual needs, which is known as bartering in early times. At this time, people were beginning to settle down and lived a simple life.
Then it comes to the early Bronze Age which started from 2900BC to 2000BC. The reason why this period is named Bronze Age is because of the invention and introduction of metal bronze. People found that knives and sword were much easier to use than stone, bone and wood. With the arrival of bronze, here also came gold and silver at the same time.
From 2000BC to 1400BC, it was the Minoan Age, and the end of Ancient Greek is named Mycenaean Age when the culture was highly flourished.
Olympics
The original purpose of Olympics was to honor their gods. For the Ancient Olympics, it seems to ne in hour of Zeus. No women were allowed to even watch and only the national Greeks can participate. At first, the game was only for one day wrestling, and then was expanded to five days with more events besides the first days festival, such as foot-race, pancratium, boxing and horse-racing. Until 1896, the athletic contests were not for religious aims any more and the first International Olympics was celebrated in Athens, Greece.
