Land Surveying Is An Essential Practice

Land surveying, in one form or another, has been a technique practiced for over 5,000 years, and today it is a required practice when dealing with almost any type of property. For instance, land surveying is necessary when planning almost any construction project and is also frequently used in the transport and mapping industries. Essentially, land surveying entails using a variety of equipment to plan, design, and establish property boundaries.

Land surveying is highly-skilled profession, and land surveyors must have a breadth of knowledge about many mathematical concepts, such as algebra, geometry, engineering, and calculus, as well as about legal concepts, such as common law, rules of evidence, contracts, and state and federal laws concerning land and property. Some of the equipment land surveyors use in their work includes computers, mapping systems, and measuring tools. All of these pieces of equipment are used to gather information about the land and to analyze data in order to define property lines and corners. Land surveyors fulfill not only practical functions such as mapmaking and building, but also for legal functions such as creating contracts and buying and selling property. Overall, and surveying is a long-practiced profession that defines property lines in order to benefit a civilization.
